Developing Leader FAQs
Who is eligible to participate in Developing Leader programs?
Any professional, age 35 and under, involved in the field of commercial real estate is eligible to participate in the Developing Leader program.
How much are my dues?
Total dues vary and are based on the chapter you are joining and may also depend on the number of individuals from your firm who are joining or have joined. National dues for Developing Leader membership are $125. To calculate your exact dues, please go to our Dues Estimator.
How often do I need to pay my dues and when does my membership expire?
NAIOP membership is based on the calendar year. However, you may join NAIOP at any time throughout the year and enjoy one year of membership. You'll pay a complete year's dues when you join and will be invoiced during the renewal cycle for a pro-rated charge for your second year of membership. Memberships expire on December 31.
The membership application states that a government issued ID is required to verify my age. What is an acceptable government issued ID, where do I send this and what is done with the document?
Documents such as a birth certificate, passport or driver's license are common IDs used for Developing Leader age verification. A copy of one of these documents should be faxed to "Membership Services" at (703) 904-7942. Once age is verified, NAIOP destroys the document. NAIOP does NOT keep a copy of the document on file.
I tried to select the Developing Leader membership when applying online, but your system assigned me a Corporate Affiliate membership. Why?
NAIOP's online dues calculator is programmed to automatically select the best dues rate for you when you fill out the application. If your company already has at least three members in your chapter, the best dues rate for you is a corporate affiliate membership.
If I am a corporate affiliate member, but am 35 years old or younger, do I still get to access Developing Leader member benefits?
Absolutely! Since you are 35 or younger, you are immediately eligible to take advantage to all of the membership benefits designed for our Developing Leaders.

My chapter does not have a Developing Leader group. How can I start one and does National have resources to assist me?
All chapters are encouraged to start a Developing Leader group. Often, all that is needed to get it off the ground is a small group of dedicated individuals. NAIOP has compiled a number of resources to assist in starting a Developing Leader group in your chapter. For additional information, please contact Bridgette Waldron.
What if there is not a chapter near me?
Although we have an extensive network of chapters across the United States and Canada, you may find yourself too far from the nearest chapter. You can still join NAIOP as a Developing Leader. You chapter affiliation is simply listed as a Member-at-Large. This allows you access to all of the Developing Leader benefits offered on the National level!
