The Center for Education Frequently Asked Questions
How many courses are in your curriculum?
A wide range of programs are offered through The Center in the form of eight separate NAIOP courses, fourteen Webinars per year, and eight adapted courses through the Chapter Education Partnership (CEP).
What are core competencies?
NAIOP core competencies are those specialized categories of applied skills or expertise and established industry practices, organized into the body of knowledge, that are essential to delivering financially successful projects.
How long are the courses?
Standard NAIOP courses are 16 hours, Webinars are 1.5 hours, and Chapter Education Partnership courses are 8 hours each.
Are any of your courses offered online?
Yes. Each NAIOP course has an online version, plus the Webinars are all online.
What are the differences between online and onsite education formats?
NAIOP uses Citrix as our online learning platform, enabling students to access classes via an internet-enabled computer. Onsite education is conducted face-to-face at a dedicated site, e.g. in a traditional classroom setting.
Do I have to take an exam?
No. Course exams are not required unless you are enrolled as a candidate for the Certificate of Advanced Study in Commercial Real Estate Development.
What records are kept of my coursework?
The Center maintains records of all the coursework you complete, as well as optional exam scores, in a confidential transcript. Transcripts are available to candidates upon request.
How often are courses offered, and what are tuition rates?
All NAIOP courses are scheduled annually in their online versions or their traditional onsite settings in different locations. Webinars are scheduled throughout the year. Eligible chapter courses are scheduled periodically by participating chapters. Tuition rates are set annually for each course. See the Education Calendar for dates and locations of all offerings and events.
What instructional methods are used in structuring the courses?
Each course incorporates lecture, workgroups, case studies analytical problem solving, applied techniques and forms of multi-media that promote a rich learning and networking environment.
How much out-of-class work is required for each course?
Courses offered online require no more than 1 hour per week of additional work outside of the scheduled class times, and traditional onsite courses require approximately 2 hours of additional work. Webinars require no additional study.
Do I have to be a Certificate Program candidate to participate in the education offerings of The Center for Education?
No. All offerings in the Center for Education are open to everyone.
How do I receive education credit for completing the courses and Webinars?
The Center assigns an educational credit value for all of its offerings. Credit value is based on the number of elapsed hours for each offering. Values are measured in the form of both Professional Development Hours (PDH) and Continuing Education Units (CEU). In addition, NAIOP is a registered provider of Learning Units (LU) through the American Institute of Architects' Continuing Education Service that regulates the LU. Earned educational credit is based on confirmed completion of an offering which is recorded in a transcript by The Center for each registered student. Transcripts are available to each student upon request as official documentation of their work when applying to licensing and accreditation authorities for approved educational credit.
Where is information on your conferences?
Information on all NAIOP conferences can be found on the Conferences Page outside of The Center for Education.
